Megan Mauter

About Megan: Prof. Meagan S. Mauter is the Principal Investigator of the Water & Energy Efficiency for the Environment Lab (WE3Lab) at Stanford University and the Research Director of the National Alliance for Water Innovation, the U.S. Department of Energy’s $110M Energy-Water Desalination Hub. Her research advances the energy efficiency and cost effectiveness of securing water supplies through innovation in treatment technologies, coordinated operation of decarbonized water and energy systems, and design of water-energy policies. Mauter also serves as a Commissioner on the Utilities Advisory Committee for the City of Palo Alto and a consultant to municipalities implementing innovative water treatment solutions.

Talk title: Condensing the Water Cycle: Solutions for Water Security in a Changing World
When rain falls from the sky, where does it go and how is it used? In this inclusive session for family members of all ages, we will do a deep dive on the water cycle and its evolution in response to a changing world. We will then cover engineering interventions to secure water supply by condensing, or shortening, the natural water cycle. Finally, we will end with a hands-on demonstration of water treatment technologies equally relevant to urban infrastructure serving millions of people and personal survival in the Sierras. Come thirsty!
