Erin Mordecai, PhD
About Erin: I am a disease ecologist interested in how global change is affecting the health of people and the planet. My lab studies how diseases transmitted by vectors (like mosquitoes and ticks) respond to climate change, deforestation, and other human pressures. I received my BS in mathematical biology from the University of Georgia '07, my PhD in ecology and evolution from UC Santa Barbara '12, and completed an NSF mathematical biology postdoc '14. I started my lab in the Stanford Biology Department, and we are now an awesome group of 15 PhD students, postdocs, and research scientists who want to use ecological levers to improve the health of ecosystems and people worldwide.
Talk title: Global Change and the Ecology of Infectious Diseases
Humans are transforming the planet. Not only do climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss affect ecosystems, they also affect our health and our risk of infectious diseases. In this talk, I will discuss the linkages between climate change, biodiversity, and disease ecology and talk about how ecological levers can be used to improve ecosystem and human health.
