Isabel Vilá Ortiz

Hometown: San Juan, Puerto Rico

Major: Earth Systems (and Creative Writing minor)

Three things I love to do at Stanford outside of class: Bake and cook in the Columbae kitchen, play some beach volleyball, and have tea times with friends

I could talk all day about: Sustainable food systems, the weirdness of the human body, magical realism, Puerto Rico, community based research/work, the nuances of translation, all the farm animals I want to have in my future, and bread!

I would love to connect with guests who work in fields related to: Medicine, Nutrition, Sustainable Food Systems, Community Based Research/Work, Writing

Biosketch: Isa grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she was born and raised amidst a big extended family. She loves swimming in the ocean, being in the rainforest, and trying new recipes, especially baking with her younger sister. She's interested in the intersection of food systems with health and sustainability. At Stanford she works at the farm where she arranges flowers, mows the orchards, and harvests citrus amongst other tasks. She also dabbles in writing poetry, and loves getting new book recommendations, so send them her way. She is so excited to work her first summer at camp as a Crawdads counselor and meet so many wonderful humans!
